California Independent Contractors - Are They Really What You Think They Are? Are You Putting Yourself at Risk?

California businesses are routinely, often unwittingly, treating workers as independent contractors when they really are not. The misclassification of independent contractors has been the subject of a number of high profile court cases, and governments are increasingly alert to this issue. Both the State of California and the IRS have tests to determine whether a worker is an employee or independent contractor and the presumption frequently is that the worker is an employee.
In this one hour webinar, we will examine the pros and cons of using independent contractors. We will also discuss the common pitfalls associated with misclassifying workers as independent contractors. Finally, we will review the various factors that courts and other governing bodies most carefully scrutinize when making determinations on whether someone is properly treated as an independent contractor.
